St Madoes Stone dates to the eighth century, and the Picts. It’s a class 2 Pictish stone, meaning that it was carved following the introduction of Christianity, and incorporates Christian symbolism. A ring-headed cross dominates the front of the stone, surrounded by biting dogs and lion-like creatures. The rear of the stone shows 3 hooded riders, possibly church men, along with other Pictish symbols, worn down by time and the elements. The stone can now be found in Perth Museum, safe from the ra
